Osteoarthritis and instability of the upper ankle joint by C Burri
On Yom 9 to 11 February 1978, the 10th accident surgery workshop took place at the Reisenburg. It was a tribute to the 60th birthdays of Maurice Edmond Müller and Jörg Rehn, a Swiss and a German, both of whom have outstanding merits in the field of trauma surgery. In accordance with the spirit of this conference, 43 specialists from the fields of surgery, orthopaedics, physical therapy, radiotherapy and trauma surgery dealt with problems of pathophysiology, diagnosis, therapy, follow-up treatment and prognosis of osteoarthritis and instability of the upper ankle joint. Painful post-traumatic arthrosis occurs quite frequently in this region of the musculoskeletal system and has great clinical and social significance due to its effects on the ability to walk. The newer methods of stable osteosynthesis have provided possibilities for the early, secondary and even late correction of post-traumatic deformities that are to be understood as prearthrosis. Surgical procedures are presented in detail and corresponding results from numerous clinics are reported. The same applies to post-traumatic instability, for the treatment of which numerous procedures are indicated. In the discussion and the recommendations, an attempt was made to determine a physiological procedure as far as possible. The present volume of the booklets on trauma medicine, published by Springer Verlag in the shortest possible time after the workshop, contains the papers of carefully selected experts in the relevant sub-fields as well as the conclusions and recommendations jointly developed in extensive and open discussions, which should be a valuable aid to the practical trauma surgeon in his daily work.| ISBN 13 | 9783540089704 |
