Bereits die ersten Anwendungen der Kernspin(NMR)-Spektrosko- pie und -Tomographie auf medizinische Fragestellungen unter Ver- wendung noch sehr unvollkommener Versuchs apparaturen lieen das auergewohnliche Potential dieser Methode erahnen. Die folge- richtig daraufhin einsetzende sturmische Entwicklung auf diesem Gebiet wurde v. a. von den Herstellerfirmen vorangetrieben, denen es gelang, durch Verbesserungen der Magnet- und Computertech- nologie serienreife Gerate mit einer bereits erstaunlichen Bildquali- tat herzustellen. Experimentelles Material aus ersten systematischen klinisch-diagnostischen Untersuchungen lat klar erkennen, da insbesondere die Kernspin(NMR)-Tomographie in Zukunft einen festen Platz in der klinischen Diagnostik einnehmen wird. Somit wird der klinische Mediziner mit einer vollig neuen Untersuchungstechnik konfrontiert, die es zunachst in ihren Grund- lagen zu verstehen gilt. Da die NMR-Technik bereits seit langem in der Chemie und Physik vielseitig eingesetzt wird, liegen eine ganze Anzahl von Lehrbuchern vor, die sich jedoch meist an einen natur- wissenschaftlichen Leserkreis wenden. Die darin vorausgesetzten physikalischen und mathematischen Kenntnisse, die sich auch im benutzten Vokabular ausdrucken, sind nicht Lehrinhalt eines Medi- zin- oder Biochemiestudiums.
