The extent of knowledge about breast cancer in theory, clinic and practice has become so large in the last three decades that a separate volume has been necessary to deal with this topic. In the context of this work, it is obvious that the radiological disciplines should have a special say in both diagnostics and therapy. Etiology, the corresponding ethnology, the stochastics of cell degeneration, experimental medicine, immunology and detailed surgery are not dealt with, because this would probably more than double the volume of the book. The diagnosis of breast cancer has been expanded on the one hand by mammography and thermography and on the other hand considerably improved by targeted pditherapeutic tissue removal with a decisive histopathology. The early discovery of a carcinoma in situ and the differentiation into a lobular, intraductal or infiltrating carcinoma decisively determine the fate of the woman. The question of radical mastectomy with postoperative radiation and simple mastectomy with radiation can only be decided after careful statistical studies on a broad basis, taking into account older and more recent clinical experience. In order to avoid the often very restrictive operation, combination therapies, such as simple ablation of advanced carcinoma or tumorectomy in early carcinomas together with radiation, have come to the fore. The significance of the repeatedly discussed pdioperative radiation and the indication for it are carefully discussed. The years of careful research on radiotherapy with megavolt radiation alone deserve special attention because they can show excellent results both cosmetically and statistically.| ISBN 13 | 9783642953781 |
