1977 erschien die erste Auflage des Buches Klinische Kardiologie von Soko- low und McIlroy im Rahmen der neu konzipierten Medical Library, gedacht fUr den angehenden Kardiologen, aber auch fUr den fortgeschrittenen und in- teressierten Studenten. Das Buch beinhaltet einen universellen Einblick in das Herz und die dazuge- horenden groBen GefaBe mit allen Krankheiten und StOrungen, Darstellung der Untersuchungsmethoden sowie der entsprechenden Therapie. Bei opera- tiv behandelbaren Krankheiten sind ausreichende Hinweise gegeben. Bei ih- ren AusfUhrungen haben die Verfasser keine Miihe gescheut, auch einfache und in der Regel bekannte Begriffe zu erHiutern und auf ihnen aufzubauen. Gelegentliche Wiederholungen konnten dabei im Interesse der Einheit der einzelnen Kapitel nicht immer vermieden werden, doch diirfte sich das insge- samt als Vorteil auswirken. Jedem Kapitel ist ein Literaturverzeichnis beigege- ben. Ein umfangreicher Sachkatalog dient dem schnell en Auffinden der ein- zelnen Punkte des reich gegliederten Buches. Zahlreiche Tabellen und Abbildungen erlautern den Text. Der groBe Erfolg des Buches in den USA fUhrte bald zu weiteren Auflagen und veranlaBte den Verlag zu Ubersetzungen in andere Sprachen, darunter auch eine deutschsprachige Ausgabe, die nun als Gegenstiick zur 3.
