Hemorrhagic Diatheses by Erwin German
Research into blood clotting has developed rapidly in recent years and enriched our knowledge. The diagnosis and treatment of haemorrhagic diatheses have therefore undergone a fundamental change. This has been reported in numerous publications around the world. Collective papers have often been held at the large congresses, but the specialist often did not find sufficient opportunity to exchange views there. We have therefore undertaken to gather those who are particularly interested in hemorrhagic diatheses for a discussion in a narrower circle. Our suggestion was joyfully received on all sides. Soon Prof. LAuDA invited to a "Symposium on Hemorrhagic Diatheses" at the 1st Medical University Clinic in \Vien. This met under Prof. LAuDAs and the two undersigned chairmen on 4 and 5 February 1955 with the participation of numerous haematologists from Germany and abroad. The symposium gave a comprehensive picture of our current discussion of haemorrhagic diatheses. So we decided to publish the presentations and lectures held there with the discussions as monographs. Occasional repetitions and overlaps could not be completely avoided; fundamental contradictions in the views have hardly come to light, so that the uniformity of the work has been preserved despite the many individual authors. Only the nomenclature was standardized by the editors according to the proposal of the "International Committee on Blood Clotting Factors". Accordingly, the individual factors have been numbered in the text and the name used by the author has been added in brackets, so that there are no difficulties in communication.
