Der vorliegende Abschnitt stellt eine Erganzung zum Kapitel Die mikro- skopische Anatomie der weiblichen Keimdriise im gleichen Handbuch, das von SCHRODER (1930) bearbeitet wurde, dar. In den verflossenen 25 Jahren hat die Forschung auf diesem Gebiet vielerlei neue Erkenntnisse gebracht. Manche Fragen erscheinen heute in einem anderen Lichte als damals oder haben zu einer Klarung gefiihrt. Andererseits wieder hat sich eine Neubearbeitung gewisser Ge- biete eriibrigt, da nichts wesentlich Neues dariiber zu berichten ist. Das gilt vor aIlem von den makroskopischen Verhaltnissen, den MaBen, Gewichtszahlen und dem Erscheinungsbild des Ovariums in den verschiedenen Lebensaltern, iiber welche das SCHRODERsche Kapitel erschopfend Auskunft gibt. Ebenso wurde nach Moglichkeit davon abgesehen, aIle alteren Autoren, die bereits im friiheren Handbuchartikel aufgefiihrt sind, neuerdings zu zitieren, falls nicht ausdriicklich darauf Bezug genommen werden muBte. Aus der Fiille der Literatur der letzten 25 Jahre, die sehr verstreut und in ihrer Reichhaltigkeit, wie auf vielen anderen Gebieten auch, kaum mehr zu iiber- sehen ist, fallt auf, daB sich verhaltnismaBig nur wenige Arbeiten anatomischen Inhaltes auf das menschliche Ovarium beziehen, sondern hauptsachlich auf tierischem Untersuchungsmaterial basieren. So ist es verstandlich, wenn hier die Darstellung des mikroskopischen Baues der Follikel und des Corpus luteum im wesentlichen auf den Untersuchungen von STIEVE beruht, die heute als verbindlich angesehen werden miissen. Diesem Forscher stand eine so groBe Menge Untersuchungsmaterial gesunder Frauen zur Verfiigung, wie es in diesem Umfang keinem anderen bisher moglich war. II.
