Wenn der Herausgeber des vorliegenden Bandes diesem noch ein besonderes Wort mit auf den Weg geben darf, so ist es die Bitte, ihn von dem Standpunkt zu betrachten, daB die zahnarztlichen Bedurfnisse in Auswahl des Stoffes und seiner Darstellung eine besondere Berucksichtigung erfahren muBten. Die Mitarbeit des Zahnarztes auf dem Gebiet der Mundchirurgie hat sich als so wertvoll erwiesen, daB sie gar nicht mehr umgangen werden kann. Sie zwingt dazu, auch wenn der Zahnarzt nicht selbst graBere chirurgische Operationen auf diesem Gebiet ausfUhrt, ihm durch die EinfUhrung in das Verstandnis derselben ihm die Grundlage fUr eine gedeihliche Zusammenarbeit mit dem Chirurgen zu schaffen. Deshalb muBte der Operationslehre ein breiterer Raum gewahrt werden, als es fUr den ersten Blick fur den Zahnarzt notwendig erscheint. ZweckmaBig ist sie fUr sich behandelt worden, um auch die allgemeinen Grund- satze des Aseptik und der Schmerzbetaubung zur Darstellung zu bringen und unnutze Wiederholungen zu vermeiden.
