Nicht ohne Bedenken habe ich mich entschlossen, das von den tibrigen medizinischen Disziplinen noch vielfach gemiedene Gebiet der Psycho- therapie in Form einer auch ftir Nichtfacharzte verstandlichen und leicht lesbaren Einftihrung zu behandeln. Denn diese Einftihrung solI einer- seits einen relativ engen Rahmen nicht tiberschreiten, andererseits die den Schltissel zum Verstandnis des Stoffes bildenden Facher, die gewaltigen Ge- biete der philosophischen Grenzfragen, der Neurologie, Psychologie und Psychiatrie in starkster Zusammenpressung, dabei jedoch verstandlich genug enthalten. Trotzdem muB sie noch gentigend Raum tibrig lassen, das eigentliche Thema so erschopfend zu behandeln, daB der arztliche Leser instand gesetzt wird, die fUr die Allgemeinpraxis in Frage kommenden Falle selbst psychotherapeutisch anzufassen und tiber andere die rechte Entscheidung zu treffen oder, will er sich besonders eingehend mit diesen Problemen beschaftigen, sich in die groBeren Spezialwerke ohne Schwierig- keit vertiefen zu konnen. In dem einen Falle also Wegweiser und Rat- g e be r ftir den Praktiker, in dem anderen ftir den, welcher spezialistische Weiterbildung beabsichtigt, V 0 r stu diu m zum Durcharbeiten der groBen F achli tera tur.
