neue Untersuchungsverfahren (z. B. die Messung der elektrischen Leit- fahigkeit des Wassers) wertvolle Bereicherungen erhalten. Bei der bakteriologischen Wasseruntersuchung geht das Streben zur Zeit hauptsachlich dahin, die alte Methode der Keimzahlung durch solche Methoden zu stutzen, welche mit Hilfe des Nachweises spezifischer Bakterien einen besseren Einblick in die Infektionsgefahrlichkeit eines Wassers zu liefem versprechen. Wenn auch gerade in diesem Punkte noch manches im FluB ist, so war es doch unmoglich, an den zu diesem Zwecke empfohlenen Untersuchungsverfahren nur kurz voruberzugehen. In den letzten zehn Jahren hat sich femer die biologische Wasser- und Abwasseruntersuchung zu einer nicht vorhergesehenen Bedeutung entwickelt. Die Verunreinigung der offentlichen Wasserlaufe und die sich in derselben abspielenden Wiedergesundungsvorgange ohneBe- nutzung biologischer Merkmale beurteilen zu wollen, wiirde heutzutage jedem Untersucher den Vorwurf der Einseitigkeit mit Recht zuziehen. So war es denn ganz selbstverstandlich, daB die vorliegende neue Auflage von Ohlmuller, Die Untersuchung des Wassers eine durchgreifende Umgestaltung und erhebliche Erweiterung erfahren muBte, um dem gegenwartigen Stand der Dinge gerecht zu werden. Es wurde vor aHem auch die Analyse des Abwassers in den Kreis der Betrachtung gezogen.
