Das Lehrbuch geht dezidiert auf die Bedürfnisse des Prüfungsfaches Derma-tologie im Medizinstudium sowie auf die der allgemeinärztlichen Praxis ein. Es werden alle Krankheitsbilder, die im deutschen, österreichischen und schweizerischen Gegenstandskatalog vorkommen, angeführt und in ihrer Ausführlichkeit je nach Relevanz behandelt. Der didaktische Zugang erfolgt stets über eine konkrete klinische Situation, von der die Lerninhalte vermit-telt werden. Das Buch ist dennoch nach klinischen Entitäten gegliedert, weil dies dem Lernprozess entgegenkommt und Redundanzen vermeidet. Im narrativen Stil wird von Fallbeispielen ausgegangen, woraus sukzessive Lerninhalte und ärztliche Handlungs- und Denksequenzen abgeleitet werden.
Aufgrund der Darstellung entspricht das Lehrbuch sowohl den Anforde-rungen der Reformstudiengänge in Deutschland (z.B. Charité Berlin, Uni München), Österreich, und der Schweiz als auch der herkömmlichen Medi-zin-Curricula. Die Überschriften sind durchgehend aussagekräftige Sätze, sodass schon beim Überfliegen ein Lerneffekt eintritt. Als ausgewiesenes Lernbuch tritt es aus der Masse der konventionellen Dermatologie-Bücher hervor, da es bislang keine vergleichbaren Werke mit diesem Ansatz gibt.
